The Mistic Seas 3 consortium met online for a technical workshop on 5th-6th May 2020. The Mistic Seas scientific teams and invited Experts met to discuss, under the workpackage 2, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) Descriptor 4 (D4) - Food Webs models, in the Macaronesian sub-region, as well to discuss possible issues in the methodology, and lack of data or information being collected under the project.
All project partners, scientific teams, and experts from different European organizations (Joint Research Centre, Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale, Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria and GRM Canarias) participated in this meeting, which also had the participation of the responsible for the follow up of this project in the European Commission.
During the first day session, was discussed how to address migratory species, fishing catches, environmental factors, modelling tools, common scientific research questions, or how to better inform policymakers.
On the second day of the workshop, was discussed the following aspects: overarching objectives, targeted ecosystems and design of the regional ecosystem models linked to addressing D4, developments of the regional ecosystem models, implementation and developments of the MISTIC SEAS III database, food-web indicators relevant to D4, and synthesis of available data for model construction.
